Hello everyone. I am posting to share my research on CLT from back in graduate school. In this study I teamed with the wonderful folks over at the Forest Products Lab to create a calibrated material model of the CLT used in my study of the Carbon 12 building for hygrothermal simulation in WUFI. The study used standard procedures to quantify sorption isotherms, capillary absorption, and equilibrium moisture content at varying ambient relative humidity levels. We also performed large scale absorption tests (water absorbed against gravity) and a newly proposed infiltration test (water absorbed with the aid of gravity) on larger CLT off cuts that were meant to more accurately represent conditions experiences in the Carbon 12 building. The large scale tests were compared to WUFI simulations and a material definition for use in the software was developed. See below for a link to the study which is downloadable on the FPL website.
