Dear Members
Please help share any good resources for teaching wood classes in a university setting.
this can be some online notes, Youtube classes, etc.
Once we have a good list, my intention is to add these permanently in
Timber_Links – Timber Engineering Forum
let's build a big collection of free, open, and useful resources for teachers!
Please help!
I found this Youtube list on wood design based on NDS. Got a good background and some worked examples
The author did not finish it completely, but maybe she will if the list gets more views!
Canadian Wood Council (CWC) has launched a website to share teaching resources, called woodSMART. The materials for structural wood design are OK.
@jianhuizhou is there a website we can access the Canadian wood design code for free? like the NDS package posted online by AWC?
@ling Unfortunately, no. The CSA O86 is published by CSA Group. The latest version requires a subscription to view and download. The downloaded PDF can only be viewed within the network with the subscription.
CWC published a Wood Design Manual in Canada, and there is a photocopy of CSA O86 attached to the manual.
Thanks @jianhuizhou
I think having codes and standards readily accessible is great. U.S. seems to be quite ahead on this compared to other regions. Both IBC and NDS (with all needed supplements) are available online for free to view ( see here Timber_Links – Timber Engineering Forum). Thanks to AWC and ICC. those are called non-profit orgs for a reason. They do sell paper copies and downloadable/printable copies, having an online free-viewing option is great, especially for students.
UofO Professor Erochko posted a playlist on Canadian timber design which is useful for new designers CIVE4202 - Wood Engineering.
Thanks @dcmiles , That is a great online class, we should invite him on this forum. Do you have his contact?
